Country music superstar Martina McBride wanted to make a country music playlist on the streaming service Spotify, but what she didn’t bargain for was an all-male list of artists, which is exactly what Spotify suggested to her. Thinking it was a fluke, McBride refreshed the list, and it happened 13 more times! Furious, she took to social media and told Spotify they needed to do better, and we applaud her stance. As a musician whose work appears on Spotify and who stands to suffer backlash from the service, she took a big risk to stand “for every little girl out there who doesn’t hear this music and doesn’t know that she can grow up and do it.”
